The Wood We Use
We use wood from non-threatened North American tree species.
This means that a wood species that we use is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Below are sample images (from Wood Database) of the wood we use.

Yellow Birch
Light, reddish brown. Uniform in appearance. A good choice when the texture of the wood is not the visual focus of a piece. |
Aromatic Red Cedar
Reddish or violet-brown. Streaks of pale yellow. A good choice for outdoor furniture or places where pests need to be discouraged, such as clothing storage and closets. |
Black Cherry
Light pinkish brown with golden hues, darkening to a medium reddish brown with time and exposure to light. This wood is sensitive to water damage, therefore not ideal in kitchens or bathrooms. |
Maple
Varies from nearly white to an off-white cream colour, sometimes with a reddish or golden hues: North American Maple tends to be darker. This wood is tough and resistant to wear and tear. |
Red Oak
Very light to medium browns with slight reddish cast. Unique short ray fleck patterns. A classic wood for stairs and cabinets due to its durability and resistance to warping. Used for indoor furniture as it is susceptible to water rot. |
White Oak
Light to medium brown with an olive cast. Unique long ray fleck patterns. A classic wood for stairs and cabinets due to its durability and resistance to warping. Is much more resistant to water rot than Red Oak, and therefore can be used for outdoor furniture and even boat-building. |
Poplar
Light cream to yellowish brown, with beautiful streaks of grey or olive greens. Can be surprisingly dramatic. Colours become richer with time and exposure to light. Great for fine furniture details and heavy duty items such as kitchen cabinets. |
Black Walnut
Light pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks, sometimes with a grey, purple, or reddish cast. Stunningly rich in appearance. Very durable and resistant, although can be sensitive to scratches. |
Our inventory sometimes includes wood that is reclaimed, from preventative harvesting, or purchased from wood shops that are closing down.
